Transport

ISU is located in Lubowa, 10 kilometres south of the centre of Kampala. The school has a fleet of 17 buses that travel between residential areas in Kampala, Entebbe and Lubowa.

Bus Times

The arrival time for buses at school is scheduled for 7:40-7:45 am. Please note that dropping times largely depend on the prevailing traffic jam on the road at any given time.

• Makindye: 20-30 minutes
• Tank Hill: 30-40 minutes
• Kololo: 30-40 minutes
• Naguru: 40-50 minutes
• Entebbe: 45-55 minutes
• Mbuya: 40-50 minutes
• Bugolobi: 35-45 minutes
• Munyonyo: 30-40 minutes
• Ntinda: 45-55 minutes
• Nakasero: 30-40 minutes
• Muyenga: 30-40 minutes

At the end of the school day there are three services:

1. 3.10pm (2:20pm on a Wednesday) at the end of the regular school day
2. 4.10pm for students who stay on for after-school activities
3. A limited bus service at 5:00pm for those who take part in extended activities or sports

Our Buses

• The driver is accompanied by an adult bus monitor who is responsible for student behavior and welfare.  All drivers are trained in defensive driving techniques by the US Embassy.
• To ensure safety and security all seats have been fitted with three-point seat belts which students are required to wear and booster seats for the smaller children.
• The buses are also equipped with a DriveCam which records any unusual movement and behavior inside and outside of the bus.
• The buses are in addition supplied with handheld walkie talkies that are connected to the US Embassy Radio channel for use in case of security emergency or phone failure.
• The US Embassy helps in providing information and security measures to ensure the buses and the journeys are safe. Radio contact with the US Embassy and mobile phone with ISU is maintained throughout the journey.
• The buses also have tracking devices for determining the actual location and movement of the buses. There is a panic button on every bus to urgently inform the school of any security emergency.
