School Library

The ISU library has been organized to meet the needs of our learning community in the most effective manner. We have the Junior School library which includes a collection housed in the Early Childhood Center. Periodically, the library hosts Saturday Read Alouds to allow families to share in stories and arts and craft activities. We also have the Senior School library which contains a unique collection of rare Ugandan books. The Library team consists of four capable staff members who are available to serve our learning community.

Learning Environment

The library is the hub of the ISU community where the library team, teachers and students jointly create and maintain a learning environment with access to a wide range of print and non-print information resources. The mission of the library is to foster in our students a love of reading and the development of life-long learning abilities in information discovery while facilitating learner agency. The collection of library resources is developed in collaboration with the teachers in order to directly support and enhance the school's curriculum requirements and the PYP, MYP and DP programs. The library team works collaboratively with the coordinators of the three IB programmes to ensure that students develop the research skills necessary for their learning at ISU and beyond. These skills are taught within the authentic context of classroom projects. Finally, in all its resources and programs we seek to reflect the international and multicultural nature of the ISU community.

We have over 26,000+ individual titles in our print collection and a growing number of e-books through our Library program Destiny and Follett Shelf. Our collection is enhanced during the school year as new resources are released and when students and teachers express specific needs. We have 500 audiovisual items, over 60 different periodical subscriptions, a large reference section, and 7 internet database subscriptions. We're also equipped with student-accessible iMacs, iPads, and kindles with protected internet access. ISU Teachers and the Librarians work closely together to select materials that support the International Baccalaureate PYP, MYP and Diploma programmes.
