Terrific! Awesome! Amazing! Wonderful!

pupils at project exhibition showing their work

WOW what an amazing personal project exhibition - the Grade 10s really outdid themselves and totally impressed all those that attended. Congratulations to all of the Grade 10s for their dedication and commitment to the entire project, but particularly the exhibition.

Students set up their displays in the morning of Tuesday 25th February and were visited by the Grade 5 and Grade 6 students from 1.20pm until 2.10pm and then Grade 7 and Grade 8 from 2.10pm until 3pm with various ISU staff members also dropping in too. The other students were fascinated and inspired, especially the Grade 5s who are set now to begin their own PYP personal project equivalent. For the younger students, they seemed most interested in anything to do with space or technology!

For the official opening ceremony two of the Grade 10 students, Hyun Jun Ha, on the clarinet, and Na Yeon Kim, on the keyboard, played solo pieces to kick off the exhibition in style. Anna Hirsch and Stacey Lugada then shared with the audience their experiences of the personal project and explained a little about what was involved and the immense journey that students undertake. After a couple of short speeches by the personal project coordinator and senior school principal, we were underway with the showcasing of their projects.

Visitors were extremely complementary and positive about the event and the students with comments ranging from how professionally they presented themselves and particularly how passionately they expressed themselves. They also felt that the students were very engaging and confident at all times and it was the Grade 10 students stepping forward and inviting people to be drawn into their personal project world!

The projects themselves really impressed and people remarked on the amount of work done, the attention to detail, the creativity and innovation; and how beautiful the exhibition boards looked and the final products; and also that students had gone to the trouble to 'dress to impress'.

It was a marvellous turnout with a mix of students, parents/guardians, teachers, supervisors, and other ISU staff and community members. The Grade 9s were there in full force to experience the exhibition and get a taste of what is to come for them in a few months time. The Grade 9s did an excellent job of touring all of the exhibitions, soaking up the inspiration, and answering questions that will help guide them.

Well done to the Grade 10s for never giving up, for giving it their best shot and making the most of what can only be described as an amazing (and all encompassing!) opportunity. The students have grown as IB learners, as individuals, and as a group and should all be very proud of their achievements.
