The International School of Uganda sports and extra-curricular activities programme has a strong commitment to excellence. The P.E. department provides for the whole school an array of competitive and non competitive sporting opportunities, special events, extra curricular activities and service learning opportunities. ISU teams annually compete in the ISSEA (International Schools of Southern and Eastern Africa) and ISSAK (International School’s Sports Association Kampala) leagues. The ISU Athletic Handbook outlines our team ethos and selection process.
This year, our new Athletics Director (AD), John Zahara has been working hard to improve student participation in sports and increase the number of ISU staff who coach our many teams. His hard work is paying off as you will see from the graphs below. The number of athletes taking part in ISSAK (local league) or ISSEA (international league) has doubled in some areas and it is fantastic to see students wanting to play and bring our school to a new level.
ISSAK (International Schools Sports Association Kampala)
is a local competitive sports league. This league includes volleyball, basketball and football seasons for students from 8 to 18 years old. In addition there are regular swimming and track and field events.
ISSEA (International Schools of Southern and Eastern Africa) is an international regional athletic and extracurricular association. ISU is a member school of the ISSEA League. Other participants in the ISSEA League include:
American International School of Johannesburg (AISJ)
American International School of Lusaka (AISL)
Harare International School (HIS)
International Community School of Addis Ababa (ICS)
International School of Kenya (ISK)
International School of Mozambique (ISM)
International School of Tanganyika (IST)
ISSEA tournaments include volleyball, basketball, track, swimming, rugby, band, choir, dance, drama, arts, STEM, tennis and golf.
We look forward to the challenge of training and preparing our teams for these tournaments and to seeing their successes along the way.
