Uganda Model United Nations
Model United Nations Conferences
Model United Nations (MUN) is a conference, which simulates United Nations committees and addresses actual world issues. Students participate in the conference as delegates of various countries and formulate political positions based on the stance of their representative countries. After collaborating with other delegates, various resolutions are created to address specific world issues. MUN is a motivational experience that allows students to solve the world’s most pertinent issues. In the process, students are able to build leadership, communication, critical thinking and debating skills.
Uganda Model United Nations (UGMUN)
The UGMUN Conference at ISU is the very first of its kind to be held in Uganda for high school students. Before the conference, ISU typically holds workshops to train teachers from participating schools on the procedures and structures of Model UN conferences. This mainly applies to schools that have had no prior MUN experience. It has been found that the conference tends to be more successful if a teacher from a participating school takes a leadership role in supporting the students. In many cases, the teacher is a debating enthusiast and has an interest in world affairs or international politics, however, this is not a requirement.
