Message from the Senior School Principal
Welcome to the ISU Senior School web page. Whether you are an existing member of our school community, thinking about joining ISU, or just browsing our website we invite you to explore the site further and familiarise yourselves with our educational environment that is committed to the spirit of internationalism and academic excellence.
Integral to our philosophy is the recognition that students require an education that acknowledges the uniqueness of each student and promotes personal and academic excellence, tolerance and responsibility. ISU students have the opportunity to learn more about themselves and the world around them, to develop new skills and form lasting friendships. This is achieved through the provision of a challenging curriculum that develops critical thinking, and emphasizes the personal and academic excellence promoted at ISU. We also consider it important that students, teachers and parents work together as a team. For this to be successful cooperation between the school and the family is essential and close communications is an important factor in providing a conducive, welcoming and supportive environment.
The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IBMYP)
This is an internationally recognized Programme designed to meet the educational requirements of students between the ages of 11 and 16 years. At ISU, the Middle Years Programme builds and strengthens the foundation of learning and skills from the Primary Years Programme and prepares students for the IB Diploma Programme. MYP helps students develop the knowledge, attitudes and skills they need to participate actively and responsibly in a changing and increasingly interrelated world.
The International Baccalaureate Diploma and Certificate Programme
Students have three options: the IB Diploma Track, the IB Certificate Track or the ISU High School Diploma Track. All Diploma and Certificate tracks allow students to qualify for the ISU High School Diploma so long as they satisfy the requirements for graduation. The Diploma and Certificate Programmes are highly respected and recognized by colleges and universities in most countries. The IB Diploma is the most demanding of the three options in terms of student motivation and commitment, class and independent study time. In this respect, all students are expected, with guidance, to choose a programme, which works towards graduation and provides the opportunity for optimum academic excellence.
The senior school staff are a caring, highly qualified and multicultural team, carefully selected for their ability to make a positive impact on student lives and learning. Learning Support, English as an Additional Language (EAL) and Advisory Teachers are an integral part of the support team and assist students with personal and academic issues, monitor individual welfare and academic progress and consult with teachers and parents when needs arise.
ISU offer senior students a wide variety of co-curricular activities including an active Community and Service Programme, each designed to be inclusive and to help students develop individual interests, confidence and social skills.
We invite you to explore our website further and learn more about our academic programme, homework expectations, student support structures; and view pictures of our extensive co-curricular activities.
