The forum today focused on the three IB programmes.

Our three programme coordinators led an inquiry into how they are connected and support the growth and development of our children in a changing world.

Commonalities between the three programmes
The session began with visual exploration of the three programme models and the ideas and components that are part of all three programmes. These include:

  • Subject Groups
  • Concept-based
  • Inquiry-Driven
  • Approaches to Learning
  • Approaches to Teaching
  • International Mindedness
  • Learner Profile

What is worth learning?
Next we looked at the following video answering the question: What is worth learning in a world that is changing so rapidly, what are we preparing our children for?  What skills, knowledge and dispositions do they need to be successful within this 21st century.

Understanding the Approaches to Learning
The group explored the Approaches to Learning Skills and discussed how we would rank the skills.  The following images illustrate the different ATL skills that were explored.

Capstone Projects
The coordinators illustrated the three capstone projects that are required for the three programmes:
PYP - Exhibition (Group/Individual Inquiry over six-eight weeks)
MYP - Personal Project (Individual Inquiry over nine months)
DP - Extended Essay (4000 word research essay)

Video Recording
Please note that our parent forums are usually led in a workshop format so not all content and discussion is possible to capture via video.
