Parents Forum Parent Blog

Thursday's Parent Forum focussed on the topic of Keeping your family physically fit and healthy.  The current situation has added a layer of difficulty in ensuring that the family as a whole are maintaining and engaging within a healthy level of activity each day.  The discussion started with reading through "Why active kids are healthier kids...especially while stuck at home."  We spoke about some of the challenges of being active as a family: time, fatigue, space, screen time and prioritisation.  Once the challenges were recognized, everyone contributed in setting goals as a family and all were provided a list of resources where more ideas can be found. One of the biggest solutions that rose to the top is, as parents, to be actively engaged in the activity ourselves--its more than dropping them off for practice, or doing an activity we enjoy, but rather finding common ground and being involved. Allowing everyone in the family to find ownership in their active lifestyle, and share in it together, will lower stress levels, help with the increased anxiety that some feel, and will improve everyone's long term health! Active Leopards are happy, healthy Leopards!
