In today’s parents’ forum we began The Why Series, starting with the topic of The Learner. Today we explored the idea of learner expectations and the mindsets of the adults in their lives. The session began with a quote about the image of the child from Loris Malaguzzi the founder of the Reggio Emilia schools in Northern Italy We also explored points raised in Trevor Regan’s video that unpack the concept of the self-fulfilling prophecy and how as adults we can project our expectations on children both through our actions and our labels. We then explored the different actions that we take with our children and considered what steps we can take to build a stronger vision of our children as capable and competent learners.
