Agency and Ownership was the focus of today’s final session of our Parent Forum: The Why Series.
As part of the discussion we explored the idea of moving from compliance to empowerment with Dr John Spencer and Jessica Lahey who shared the idea of the Gift of Failure. Parents shared how they have supported agency at home with some great suggestions such as getting up 20 minutes earlier to allow their children to get ready without support, or giving their children the responsibility to unpack their shipment and organise their bedroom. We learned how, through trust, responsibility and making simple changes to our environment we can enable our children to learn from mistakes and become empowered to take ownership of their learning.
