Today’s parent forum focused on understanding how we can support learning to read and the challenges that our children face as they embark on the reading journey.
We began by exploring how complex learning to read can be by reviewing some different examples of scripts and sound systems. Following this we reviewed part of a webinar from Carolyn Strom which unpacks the research around learning to read and how brain science is supporting our approach to reading. After discussing our experiences with learning to read and supporting our children we also explored some of the resources that we are now using to guide phonics instruction through phonics international. There were two hand-outs available including a parent guide to reading and the phonics international alphabet code.
